Securing my wireless network

Can someone help me restrict my wireless network to only my computers and gaming consoles? I recently moved into an apartment and my laptop detects 3 other wireless connections besides mine. I can connect to them with ease. I do not want other people to be able to do this on my network. I've heard that I can set up passwords (which i don't know how to do) but I've heard that I'll have a problem getting online with my xbox and ps2. Pleaes help
 
What router are you using? You need to enable WEP for starters. Look in your router manual and post your questions here.
 
Read your manual. It will give instructions specific to your devide. In short, enable WPA on your WLAN. Your AP supports it, if your clients do not then just run WEP, and you might as well use MAC filtering as well. The manual is that little book with all the information about your hardware that is typically ignored.
 
And also turn off the SSID Broadcasting to make it so your network doesn't normally show up on the other people's computers.
 
if u log into the router, open IE, type 192.168.0.1 user name is :admin password: none by default


Click on wireless on the left hand side, sroll down look for WEP click it, 64 bit should be fine, than in key1 type in a 10 hex code, so thats 0-9 or a-f.


click apply, than contiune, and than reconnect to ur wirless networks and it should ask your for the key, type it in and away u go.
