Securing a Site (https)

I'm webmaster for a site that is straight HTML, with traditional unsecured http connectability.

We're going to need the ability to accept credit card information for tickets to an event, and have established an account with an appropriate provider.

But this means that, at least for that one page, my site needs to offer cryptographic connections. Nobody would want to provide the credit card info across an unsecured connection.

I understand that I need to purchase a security certificate from a Certificate Authority such as Verisign. Right? (Are there any really cost-effective alternitive CAs? This is just a recreational organization, not a company.)

But then what? I have absolutely no idea what is involved in getting the site's hosting provider to use the certificate. I imagine it ain't rocket science, but I haven't the foggiest idea how to proceed.

Any guidance out there???
