Get it now while it's hot (ie FREE)!

SecureZIP is PKWare's latest ZIP tool with some nice added functionality like auto-encryption, mini-installer program, ability to shred archives after installation, email integration, Windows shell integration, etc etc. Works with ZIP, RAR, GZIP, CAB, LZH, TAR, and more.

Old-schooler computer people will recognize the PKWare name but for everybody else, PKware is the company that invented ZIP technology.

i just downloaded it. you don't need a license key to install or activate this product. i think the only catch is that they add your e-mail to their mailing list. the unsubscribe link didn't work for me. :(

I get 5 email addresses with my Comcast account... :)

Back on topic: is this any better than ZipGenius, ExtractNow, 7-Zip, or any of the other popular freeware zip programs?

Try Spamgourmet.com, works like a charm! If you're feeling particularly paranoid, add a watchword.

Only takes a few minutes to set up.

Out of those I've only used 7-Zip which I didn't care for much. I've been using a combination of WinRAR and an old version of WinZIP I registered some years ago. I've been fooling around with SecureZIP and the it works just as well as WinRAR and it does some things the others don't do like automagically zip/encrypt email attachments (optional). It also supports Digitial Signatures, but I haven't had a chance to test this feature yet. I've just been using the passphrase encryption...

Phil Katz was THE MAN back in the early 80's when I go my first PC. He had a product called pkark or pkarc... don't remember which. Anyway, he got sued by someone who already had a product by a similar name, so he switched his stuff from arc (archive) to zip.

Sadly, Phil was an alcoholic and basically drank himself to death. I didn't even realize that his company had lived on. That's nice.

I actually met Phil at COMDEX one year! :D

He had a small booth, way down at the end of an aisle. I thought the booth was empty, but he was standing in the crowd, having a cigarette. LoL!

I couldn't believe he was running the booth -- having been a legend from the get-go!

Anyway, this proggie seems to work great! I don't plan on getting rid of it... ;)

? What's wrong with 7zip? Been using it for years, and no problems. Small footprint, no icky installation routines.. it...just....works. :)

If you're happy with 7-zip then by all means stick with it.

SecureZIP is for people that want a bit more out of their Zip tool like email integration, encryption, shredding, digital signature support...
