Probably lost more men and women stateside in training accidents than we have in combat over there. Not impossible things arent stable but it hasnt happened yet so what is there to talk about?

They honored the man for dying in action whether it was freidnly fire or not.
Does his sacrafice mean any less if he was shot by his own troops???

People seem to forget that when it comes to displaying their party hack badge. But again exactly what does that have to with a story based around conjecture that is set in the future????

Oh and remember this is also a super secret plan, I always love that as if it adds and reliability to the story.
