Do you mean TV producers paying rich people to give immaterial studio money away on TV while reaping huge ad revenues?

Exactly, probably about 99.9% don't care or want the publicity.

Extreme Home Makeover was ridiculous. I remember one episode where this family's father died. They built them a mansion. In the living room was a gigantic wall filled with bigscreen TVs. All 5 kids got their own bigscreen TV and they each got headphones so they could all sit together and watch TV "together." The bathrooms in some of these houses are larger than some apartments.

If they really wanted to help people they could build 4 times as many families normal size houses that aren't loaded with half a dozen big screen TVs. Of course that's not as dramatic and wouldn't get as many viewers, which are all these shows are about anyway.
