I am just about to FORMAT my pc. I am going from WIN 2K to WIN XP. These are the steps I think I do to properly re-format-
Someone pls tell me if I am right-

1) boot up windows w/ boot floppy,
2) load cdrom with driver support,
3) format C: /q
4) put in win xp CD switch tp i386\winnt.exe
5) install windows.

IS THAT IT? I choose NTFS right. BTW I am not doing any partitioning. THX.

Boot up using the WinXP cd. You can opt to have WinXP delete partitons and create partitons and even do a quick format of the new partition.

Much easier.

danny.tangtam.com
also load smartdrv before you run winnt
It will speed up things install immensely. 3 - 4 times faster in my experience.

Is this definately a bootable CD?

Maybe its an upgrade? Well, you could boot off of floppy, load smartdrv, copy install folder to HD, and install it like that?

Try booting another CD, a Win2k CD perhaps? Never heard of that error in DOS.

xp rules. it was a fast, easy install for me (takes away all the fun of getting X 3.3.6 to work on a Geforce though ;))

personally i'd just get a boot disk and delete the WINNT and documents and settings folder, does pretty much the same thing. guess you get all your grot off the drive that way though. most people i know with 2k aren't going to xp.
