secondary hard drive not working

so i got a secondary hard drive, formatted it, put stuff on it.

i then wanted to install ubuntu (dual boot, both OS installed on first hdd) and for some reason, grub wasn't working. so i simply unplugged the second hard drive (when pc was shut off of course). i then did my thing and grub worked! yay! so then i just shut off my computer again, plugged in the hard drive. now, when i go into windows. i still see my drive (H🙂 but when i try to explore it, it says "The disk in drive H is not formatted. Do you want to format it now?" Now the trick here is that I want to recover my drive without formatting it because i have a bunch of media there. can someone please tell me a way!!! i'd greatly appreciate it.

edit: it seems as if it has forgotten the format of the disk. is there any way i can tell it that it is ntfs so something. i also have partition magic if that is of any use

edit: after some more research, i think the problem was caused by a change in the MBR. anyone know a way to restore that?

Google was not the end point - that link leads you to "How to Repair the MBR." That is what you need to do.

Here is the direct link.
