Here is a piece of advice...... I was using windows 98 and windows 2000 and windows xp and has this problem on all 3 operating systems.
I had a DVD Player of some small time company. And i had a hewlett packard computer so i had a hewlett packard burner of 4x.
I wanted a new burner of 32x so i bought a sony and it didn't work, I changed the jumpers many ways even secondary and so forth with no luck so i took it back, I got about 4 different company burners and same problem everytime. I then called the sony company and they said that DVD players and CDR's are not compatiable all the time. And that it wouldn't work.
At this time i had a buslink 32x burner still that i did not take back, So i tried putting that one in and still no luck, So 5 in a row. I then took out the dvd player and i put the burner in as master and left the dvd player out all together and the buslink worked perfect.
So sony was right about them not compatible. I then went out later like 5 months later and bought a buslink dvd player, Same company and it worked perfect with each other.
So its just a suggestion to take the dvd player and just leave the cd burner in there just to see if it works by itself
Hope this helps,
Dave
