Secondary 1TB HDD Freezing Windows

Just got this drive about 4 months ago and filled it up with data.

On start up this morning it froze at the windows load bar. I figured out the problem and found every thing is fine when it is not used.

I even decided to plug in the SATA cable after windows was booted to see what would happen and windows just froze...

So I unplug it and wait ten seconds and windows starts running fine.

This was a very rare problem to me I don't think I have ever encountered this problem in the past with a drive.

My guess is that its dead and I need to just forget about the data and get an RMA.

Any suggestions other then that?

Wow... same thing happened to me for the first time ever. I have 4 drives in my system. Been using my WD 640 for over 1 year. Everything was golden and then I noted it would take for ever to boot into windows and when i was in, the icons would take for ever to pop. I right away went to my admin centre and sure enough one day it could find my 640 and others it could not and the system would freeze. Unplugging the drive would result in a perfect system. This lasted for 1 week off and an on and now my drive is completely dead and wont even let me see any of the data. Funny thing is Bios sees it just fine.. SMART says it's fine but nothing. I was thinking myself to see if I could do a low level DOS format.. other than than that it's RMA time. I tried placing it in the freezer overnight with no success.
