google used to (maybe still does?) bring in people to give various talks/seminars.. one guy did a thing on linking the real world with second life.

the room started out relatively full, but by the end there were only 2 people left :p

haha :) Yeah, I really didn't care if there was any sort of grade attached to that day, I really just didn't want to hear it.

I would drop the class. I had to do a small project with Second Life in one of my classes last semester, and it was quite awful. I don't really see what you're going to gain from learning about the game either, as it's probably going to fail in a few years.

I suppose if the other classes look more difficult though, this might be better. It's just that it's not likely to be terribly useful.

Isn't most of the Second Life population involved with furrys or into buying giant penises for their avatars?

I don't understand the attraction that companies have to SL as I'm sure there are more appropriate mediums, but whatever.

Have fun!

edit: When I think of SL, this sort of crap comes to mind: courtesy of Something Awful

Be prepared. Some things you may see in Second Life, you can never un-see.

After this project, I'll would probably need counseling and would try to find Jesus.

Sad... there are still some people out there who think that Second Life is going to be the "next big thing"?

I blame companies like IBM for trying to make that site look somewhat legit by establishing a virtual presence there.

What makes you think JC doesn't have an SL Avatar?

If you need to have WoW'ers participate in anything for the case study, you could ask in the video games forum... we do have quite a WoW thread in there and a lot of various people.

Looks like this Second Life is some kind of group project.
Lab: Introduction to Second Life
Lab: The Avatar, your virtual self
Lab: Second Life building basics
Lab: Second Life advanced Textures and Clothing
Lab: Second Life scripting basics

+ we have a book all about Second Life, cost me $35 :(

My second life avatar lost all his friends and now I log him on and he spends all day playing Third Life.

Took a "Gaming and Virtual Worlds" class last year-- a class was taught IN second life.

I feel your pain.

I don't think you could learn much from the game. I also don't get why people hate on it so much, it's completely free. Paying is a choice. It's a 3D chatroom.(Basically taking emoticons to a much higher level) You either like it or you don't.
