Bought the quantum fireball le? plus 30 gig plugged it in to middle connecter on ide with jumper setting on cable select first connecter has a IBM 22 gig. Power cable is plugged in too. Booted up comp went to bios, bios doesnt detect it. Booted up comp all the way cant see it in device manager. My floppy drive is broken so i can't use fdisk. I don't know whats the problem both droves are ata 66 and 7,200 RPM too. I have the fix sd11 athlon MB too.

what can i do to get it reconized?

🙁 🙁 🙁

You can't use Cable Select setting unless you use a Cable Select ribbon cable. They are different.

If you are using standard IDE ribbons, then use standard M and S jumper settings.

Make sure the cable is plugged in the correct way and use the master/slave settings like corky said. If that doesnt work, try it on your secondary channel or as the primary device as you might have a bad cable

Also, I would test it with just the 30GB device to be 100% sure.

Since you have a WD drive, make sure you consult your users manual for jumper settings. WD drives are insanely wierd in the way they have jumpers set up, and it reacts differently to non-WD drives as a slave. So you'll have to make extra sure.

Also, as stated earlier, you probably do not have a CS cable. Either way, cable select really isn't worth it.

Both connecters on the Primary IDE cable wrork because i put the 22 gig on the middle connecter and it worked. Still doesn't work. Interchange i have a quantum HD is that made by WD?

I'm sorry I must be smoking some amazing stuff. I misread IBM as WD for some strange, strange reason. Anyhow, disregard that comment. The jumper settings should be straightforward.
