Need some suggestions...

Here's my situation. I'm either gonna buy an Antec Nine Hundred case or I'm gonna get another 7600gt to run in SLI mode. I currently have a Thermaltake Xaser III case and to be honest I don't think it can cool nearly as well as the Antec Nine Hundred. I will eventually purchase both of these products but there will probably be about 2 months in between.

Which would you guys get first? The second vid card or should I go for the case? Both are about the same price.

Hahaha, SLI 7600GTs isn't worth the money you'd spend on it. Save up for a single better card.

What he said...

Second 7600gt= = 3/4-ish of a 7900gt IIRC. No point at all considering the thing is already outdated (thank god I got one last year...).

A second 7600GT in SLI will help if you are using widescreen resolution of at least 1680 x 1024. Otherwise SLI will not do much for you. One 7950 might serve you better depending on your screen and needs. I have two 7600GT on an ASUS A8NSLI Premium. Works well on my 22' and 20' Widescreens.

SLI isn't worth it IMO. I'd say sell your current 7600GT and get a 7900GT or higher.

Well I could do without the ''omg 7600 = noob" crap but I get your point. The 7600gt is only 100 dollars so its not exactly a piggy bank buster. I noticed that the 7600gt in sli performs loads better than a single 7600gt in oblivion. I was planning on waiting about a year before I got a dx10 card. I mainly play eve online and if any of you play that then you know that it doesn't take a uber vid card to play. However they are coming out with a dx10 version of the game in about a year.

But if the sli really wont allow me to crank one more setting up and still get better frames than previous with that setting down then yeah I guess its not worth it. Perhaps the same could be said for all sli cards then? Instead of getting sli just wait and get a new card? tbh I want sli for the novelty of it. I had previously planned on using the single 7600gt to hold me
over until dx10 matured a bit so I think I will stick to that.

Thanks for the input fellas.
New case it is.

Calm down, we weren't digging at you, just SLI. The problem is people are attracted to it as you say, because it is a novelty. Well, it's a money-wasting novelty. I'll never SLI or CrossFire any graphics cards because it's simply a waste of money. By the time you've waited and bought another card it's old and isn't giving you the same boost that you'd have gotten if you'd bought a slower card initially and saved for a more powerful single card later.

Sell your current video card for 100 on ebay or fs/t

buy this and get better performance.

then next year you can post a thread about how you should get another 7900gt and we can tell you to get the new 9900GSO.

SLI is a pain to deal with, and honestly not worth the effort unless you absolutly need and require the best of the best of the best, that no game in existance can use currently or in the next 6 months. Although it does give you + 6in on the e-pen

Yeah I'm not gonna sell the 7600gt just to get a 7900 lol. I just bought the 7600gt like I said to wait for more dx10 stuff to come out; games, hardware, reviews etc etc. I'm waiting on a particular dx10 title anyhow and it won't be out for nearly a year. 7600gt runs the other games that I play rather casually just fine during that wait.

I am curious about this though: I play a game called eve online. I play in window mode and often run two instances of the game at once. I once tried putting each instance on a different monitor and the secondary got horrid horrid performance. Would having a second card (not in sli) allow for use of two monitors as though each were a primary display?

well would having two 8800 be considered the best of the best? Oblivion exists. I believe oblivion benefits from having 2 8800's.

Why are you taking the suggestions as attacks towards you?
Don't post asking for suggestions and then ignore the suggestions given. In the end its your money and you can do whatever you want with it. We can just suggest better uses for it that will give you increased performance.

Yes two 8800GTX would be the best of the best but how much does that really affect gameplay in Oblivion? Getting an extra few fps doesn't mean all that much for an extra $500.

If you aren't willing to sell the 7600 and get a better one.(my pick). Get the case instead. Wait until the dx10 card you want comes out. You have to take into account the extra compatibility issues that sli gives you.

You wouldn't sell your 7600GT and get a 7900GT. But you would buy another 7600GT. The cost for each is the same.

I didn't take anything as an attack. I'll post asking for questions if I feel like posting and asking for questions. Then I'll respond however I feel. I didn't ignore any suggestions. In fact I took some of the suggestions and *like i said in this same thread* I'm not gonna buy another 7600gt and instead wait for more dx10 action like I had previously planned when I went cheap and got the 7600. So you're a bit late on the flaming.
