Seattle school renames 'Easter Eggs' to...

Technically its not an abortion. Its really a Non-denominational celebratory chicken menstruation.

I applaud the strict adherence to the separation between church and state. The school receives state funds and as such is an instrument of the state which the SCOTUS has ruled cannot condone activities which give the impression of government endorsement of religion. These children are now spared indoctrination by the state into a particular religion and will be free to choose their own path. Thus, a social good combined with carrying out the wishes of our founding fathers, this is a win win for all.

nah, j/k thats fucking nuts.

No, actually it's not nuts at all. Let the kids try to hide meatballs in celebration of their Noodly Master or dye cereal bars and pass them out as Ramadan Rice Crispie Treats and you know the bible thumpers would be screaming holy murder. So what's the difference? Public schools accepting public money are not allowed to pick and choose which rites for which invisible man in the sky are okay and which are too stupid. They're all good or they're all bad. And since the christians are the ones who make the most noise complaining about other religious holidays it's only fitting that their idiotic rituals are shown the same lack of respect.

Given that Easter eggs are to do with Eoster, the Anglo-Saxon goddess of the dawn. Its to do with celebrating rebirth. I'm not sure why they are worried about church and state.

Because Christians stole Easter. Celebrating Eoster means it shouldn't be celebrated in public schools anyway... So no matter how you cut it, it was the right thing to do.

Interesting. I always knew it was a ripped off fertility festival, but I didn't realize how close it still was to it's roots :^)

If you actually read the article, it's one singular 16-year-old claiming this, and no body has been able to confirm it. Smells like bullshit to me.

i just read the headline and went with that. makes for good thread discussion. hell, the original article should be blamed or thanked for this

I'll let you look up the details but eggs, rabbits and hot cross buns are not Christian symbols.

On a similar note you'd be surprised (maybe) at how much of Christmas is pre-Christian.

Ancient Pagans apparently believed (as far as I've read) that the form of worship was as important as the belief. So when your eating your Easter eggs and hot cross buns youre still celebrating their stuff and keeping their traditions alive.

So you could look at it as they subverted Easter from the start.
