your right he prolly shouldnt have gotten out unless he was gonna check to make sure they were alright but still hitting the guy over the head with a skateboard? and they obviously had enough force to kill him, all because he stopped to avoid probably KILLING them. sigh sad sad world.

Sounds like a bunch of punks the guy even snuck up from behind to hit him. He should have just run them over. :frown:

<< dumbass shouldnt have gotten out of his car. >>

Yeah right you should expect to get hit over the head with a skateboard if you get in an argument with a bunch of punk ass cowardly kids.

It saddens me that this is the immediate reaction to the death of an innocent man. Clearly in hindsight he would have been better off not getting out of his car, but it is unfortunate that our world is a sufficiently dangerous place that this act alone can be perceived as risking one's life. Can we please refrain from calling murder victims "dumbass[es]"?

Brings to mind the stupid bumper sticker I see on the cars of the various skateboarders around here, "Skateboarding Is NOT A Crime."

The problem is, it seems that those that are involved in skateboarding are always getting busted for OTHER crimes. :p

Pardon me for saying it, but Im not dumb enough to get so angry at a bunch of teenagers that I get out of my car and confront them. Its common sense. Its sad that they killed him, but this is an ending that is all too common in road rage. I've nearly hit pedestrians dozens of times in my (college) town. Not a single time did I get angry to the point of getting out and starting a confrontation with them.

Common sense!

Yes, and it seems all women can't drive either, and all black people commit crimes!

That is really sad and disturbing. I cannot image such a waste. One man dead... another soon to be put away for along time on manslaughter charges. All of this over something so petty and small. Hopefully we all remain calm when we face such a situation.

dumbass shouldnt have gotten out of his car.

Let's blame the victim for what some punk-ass kid did. There's a dumbass around but it wasn't that guy that got killed.

So the guy wasnt dumb for getting out of his car to argue with *three* skateboarders?

My point is that there are some crimes where you cant avoid being a victim (random drive by, home invasion) and there are crimes you can avoid (like this one, where it could have been avoided if he simply stayed in his car).

Something very similar to this happened to my brother's friend Lee last week.
He was walking out of the Class Six (army booze shop) and a group of skateboarders surrounded him and one of them bashed him in the back of the head with his skateboard. Amazingly Lee was able to turn around and punch the guy in the face...that's all he can remember. Lee is ok now, but Im still wondering WHY they did it, Lee says he didnt even know them and they didnt rob him or anything.

This was in Ft Lewis, WA.
People suck.

Exactly. Of course in retrospect he should not have gotten out of his car but normally if there are three skateboarders and they act like clowns and you get out of the car to argue with them chances are very low you're gonna get killed. It's not a normal thing to have happen.

What's with you guys calling these skateboarders "kids". You call people in their early twenties with no common sense "kids"?

Gosh, I'm soooo happy they are that old. If I could find them, I would. I hope they are tried and locked up for most if not the rest of their natural lives. What simpletons they are. :|

I do agree it was unnecessary and unwise for Demetri to get out of his car and argue with some 20+ year old guys trying to act as kids. I for one think that was childish in of itself. However, that does not justify the stupid boys' (who should have been men by now but aren't) conduct. They'll probably give a crappy excuse that it was not a willful intent to kill or harm the victim. But that's crap if I were a juror there. There's no excuse, except if they have evidence that it was in self-defence.

*Wondering if Seattle folks are that whacked-out. :(*

You see these kinds of incidents all the time now it seems, drunken crowds blocks the street, drags people out of their car and beats them to a bloody pulp. I say its about time to take these types of crowds alittle more seriously and put consideration on your own safety first. If I were that guy, I would have locked my doors and sped on through the street, if a few of them happens to gets run over, I say tough for them. Anyone who blocks a whole street has revoked their right as a pedestrian in my book.

Don't worry - three guys with boards are going to be hard pressed to prove they had to use lethal force to defend against an unarmed man. If they catch them they're going to jail and since they are not technically kids they won't get off on some juvenile hall crap.

Alright, first off, stop calling the *ssholes who did this skateboarders, i skate, and this sort of behavior is not indicitive of skateboarders as a whole. These guys were just some jackoffs who had skateboards. Society seems to stereotype skaters alot and this sort of thing only serves to futher perpatrate the stigma. If they were real skaters they'd be far to busy actually skateboarding to get in an argument with some guy over something as silly as a little traffic incident. Most of the *true* skateboarders i know are very nice people, and as a whole i'd say (at least from personal experience) much nicer and more tolerant than many other "social groups." Hopefully the people who did this can be brought to justices soon.
