Also which one is quieter? This is what's going into my new rig:

Antec P180
Asus A8N-SLI
AMD X2 3800+
ATI x800xl
4 SATA hard drives
2 optical drives
Corsair value RAM

Which lines of Seasonic and Antec?

Seasonic Tornado? Silencer? S12?

Antec Phantom? TruePower? SmartPower?

The S12 series by Seasonic is among the most silent and efficient PSU's out there. If you can get the S12 500W, do it. The Truepower II is also a good line, but it can't hold a candle to the performance the S12 can do.

I don't have any hard data, but you can be sure the Seasonic S12 is quieter than the TruePower 2.0. It's quieter than the SmartPower 2.0 (check SilentPCReview.com for numbers). If you want the Antec, look at the "fan-less" Phantom line.

If you're looking at Seasonic, consider the S12 first. Then look at the Tornado and Silencer. Despite its name, the Tornado is very quiet and quieter than the Silencer. But there is really no reason not to get an S12 over the other Seasonic lines.

Okay thanks for all the replies, I'm scrapping the Antec for the Seasonic S12 500W. Thanks!

I have a 400w SS Tornado. Its been great on my ears. When the cpu temps go up the fan in the psu gets throttled up, but it is still quiet. i have no idea about the Antecs. Previous PS was an old Enermax Whisper that I modded a good deal.

yeah, by all accounts the seasonics are fabuolously quiet so if thats the main criteria, seasonic it is.

that said, i need to put my ear to the antec tpII's to hear them and the price is a bit more kind.

either way, you'll have a fine psu.

Antec is by no means super loud or bad.
But Seasonic probably produces the quietests fanned PSU's on the market

For your P180, get the Antec TruePower II

The Seasonic S12 is the superior power supply in terms of performance and noise, however not cable length. Many people have complained that it was extremely tight or impossible to attach the 4pin mobo power connector.

Okay I'm back to getting the TPII. It would have sucked to get all my parts and not be able to play BF2 with my x800xl!

I guess it depends on your case and MB. I installed an S12-430 with no cable length issues.

This power supply has been great, quiet , and more stable compared to the Fortron BlueStorm 400 it replaced.
