(I hate making another thread about this excellent platinum power supply, but better than dredging up a way old thread.)

Oops.. me wrong, time to correct.

The "hybrid" mode leaves the fan off for the first 50% of load, so 330w or so. Then the fan slowly ramps up. So it depends on your load, but that fan can be completely off for certain power levels.

All this is in some data and graphs in the product info.

Thanks for the post. Just ordered one to replace a SilverStone of roughly the same specs that never worked -- from day one. Unfortunately with SilverStone it was a case of "Out the door. Out of luck". Needed a PS with two of the CPU 8 pin connectors for a power hungry EVGA motherboard.

I'm in for one, upgrading from an older SeaSonic SS600-HM to get some C6/C7 power state support.

What a smoking deal, I don't think I've ever paid less than $120 for a SeaSonic power supply.

the fan doesn't turn on until about 20% load. so for light use, silent = silent.
even above that, it's much quieter than case fans.

Thanks, my last PS went out after 7 years of use and I hope one if this caliber will last at least that long.

In for one!

Thanks OP!

this thing will slowly pay for itself over time. (assuming you don't already have a platinum psu)

Very nice for it's quality but just wish it was a bit more power as it would be pushing it to try using sli for it with decent cards.

Just for the record.... according to Seasonic's own literature, the powersupply is capable of running in fanless mode until 30% load, silent fan mode until 50% and then slowly inches up into cooling mode till 100% load. Too bad we're limited to one rebate per household.

The Hybrid Silent Fan Control provides three operational stages: Fanless, Silent, and Cooling Mode. In addition, there is a switch provided to allow for manual selection between the Seasonic S2FC (fan control without Fanless Mode) and the S3FC (fan control including Fanless Mode).

I have a rig that at the wall (according to a Kill-A-Watt) takes in 600W.

This power supply handles it beautifully and quietly. I can hear my (decent) case fans over the power supply.

Under $100, this unit is a steal.

I have a HX520 that's been humming along for like 5 years.. Really tempted to get this. How long do power supplies last? lol

Depends on their quality. Cheapo PSUs like my Thermaltake TR2 lasted only several weeks. I'd say your Corsair HX520 still has some years left, especially if it's not used 24/7. Heck, I'm tempted to buy this just in case one of my PSUs craps out...
