If you want quiet, get the fanless Antec PSU. Seasonic S12s are pretty quiet though.

I truthfully cannot be;lieve you mentioned Antec and SeaSonic in the same sentence...

Those 2 are not even close as far as quality goes.

I'm not sure which is quieter, but personally I'd go for the Enermax, from what I've read and heard it's the better quality PSU.
better exterior and interior styling too, as well as a modular design which is a must for me.

helps tidy up the case two fold and increase air circulation as a result.

I've used Antec PSU for years and haven't had a problem w/ any of their PSU. Just 'cause you're rich enough to buy a PCPC PSU doesn't mean everybody else has the money or need to buy one as well. I find Antec PSU to be affordable and reliable, and that's all I care. *shrug*

Ps. Read my post again, they're in 2 separate sentences.

The SPCR review was that it's alright, but not great:

http://www.silentpcreview.com/article279-page4.html
The noise level of the Liberty at lower loads was modest. At 21 dBA@1m, it should be quiet enough for the majority of users. The fan began to ramp up once the internal temperature hit 32°C, or 150W load in our test setup, and it became fairly noisy by the time the output was raised to 200W. This kind of behavior is still above average.

Although low in volume, the quality of the fan noise at low speeds was fairly rough. I would characterize it as a low growl. As the fan increased in speed, the growl got louder and gradually turned into a low hum. Even at higher speeds, the predominant noise was low frequency.

In a medium powered system, the Liberty may well be able to do its job without ever needing to increase the fan speed. A quiet system could be built around it. But if noise is the primary concern, there are better choices. To use the Liberty for a very quiet system, a fan swap is probably necessary.

If you want low noise then the seasonic will be a better bet, and if you've got something like the P180 with a seperate PSU chamber then the antec 500W phantom is definitly worth a look.

What else do you have in the computer?

My hard drives are louder than my s12, let alone stock grpahics card fans etc. so unless you're using suspension or enclosures then i'd just go with the seasonic. Also you do NEED airflow over passive PSUs in higher powered systems, which kind of negates the point of a passive PSU in the first place.

Edit: The phantom does have a fan that spins up when the temps grow too large, but the fan isn't all the quiet when it does spin up so... *shrug*

I perosnally wouldn`t get my panties all bunched up over a SPCR review when it comes to the silence of a product.
Sure SPCR is a reputable site but with that said I would never use only one site as my definitive guide to forming an opinion on anything.

Read other sites and find out what they also have to say.

Compare the 2 or 3 or 4 sites and go from there!!

The Seasonic is not the loudest component in my setup, neither are my 3x120mm fans @ 4V. My harddrives, specially my external drive makes more noise. So if you get the seasonic you will be 99% guaranteed that other components are more noisy. I don't know how noisy the Enermax unit is.

My Seasonic never runs over 1000rpm and like others have said, other components make more noise. So, unless you put your ear next to the psu, you won't hear it.

If you have a DFI board you might want to do some research before buying the Seasonic because there's supposedly some compatibility problems

I have a SeaSonic S12 600W and it's darn quiet.

Put my ear up to it, throttle down the other fans using my fan controller, have to strain to hear the faintest sound from the SeasSonic. You won't be disappointed.

Also, the SeaSonic comes with SATA and SLI plugs, which is convenient, saving you a trip to the local shop to buy power plug adapters.

Cheers,
PCM

this is odd. Seasonics are known for being a silent/quiet powersupply.
edited to add: Did you mean known(instead of not)?

HAHA, that is all...

well ok i'll contribute. Seasonic is quieter than the enermax at load. at idle you won't notice the difference, and even at load, will the difference in noise outweight the cost/features? that's a personal decision. but i'd still go for the Seasonic.

I've bought a lot of "quiet" pc parts over the years. The seasonic 600W is the only one that truly is quiet. Like other people have said in this thread, you literally have to unplug all of your other fans and put your ear right up to it to hear anything at all.

It delivers solid power that does not fluctuate under load, whether read from bios, a software monitoring program or directly off the psu and motherboard with a digital multi-meter. This is while powering a system with a 3700+ @2800 MHz and an overclocked X800XT PE.
