seasonic s12-500 12v rails question

would the Seasonic s12-500 with 16A & 17A on each of its 12V rails be enough to power:

3000+ venice @ 2.2ghz, 6800Ultra agp, 3x120mm fans 2 optical drives, pci soundcard, 74gb raptor, 300gb seagate sata

mainly worried that the lower amps on each 12v rail might cause a problem with the 6800Ultra.. thanks for clearing it up 🙂

should be capable. It is slightly lower than I'd like to see... but it's not bad. Some people swear that dual 12's suck, they haven't been a problem for me though.

The Seasonic will run it with no problems at all... if you haven't been reading up on here... Seasonic is probably in the top 5 PSU makers... maybe number 2 behind PCP&C in some books.

well, for your reference, here is my spec and my S12 500w has not given me any problem.

Amd64 3200+ at 2.5ghz
Asus A8N Sli Premium
Corsair Twinx1024-3200C2
MSI 6600gt x2
WD Raptor 36gig
WD 1600JD
Creative Audigy 2 (dell edition)
Samsung DVD-rom
Pioneer DVR-108

Thanks for the response andyliu. Anyone else have any experiences putting a 6800Ultra (or a similar load) on one of these s12-500? A little more confirmation would make me feel better at night 😉 cheers!

It's a SLI certified PSU - tested by nVidia to power up systems with 2 x 6800 Ultras, let alone one in your case.

EDIT: NM, thought it was. 600W version is and the 500W version infers (has 2 PCIe connectors) it has the power for 2 video cards. Don't see why it can't power just one.

17 and 16 amps is hardly low. Do the math and it comes out to 192 and 204 watts on each rail respectively. That?s a lot of 12v power, far more then you actually need.

thanks... I've picked the 500 up. I'm concerned about one thing now: it has 2 cables with 3 4-pin molex connectors (and 1 4pin floppy connector) on each (for a total of 6 regular molex connectors and 2 floppy connectors). I've always had problems with my 6800U if I had anything else on the cables that were hooked up to it for power (on both an ocz modstream & enermax 460). Am I going to have problems with this since I can't dedicate 2 cables to it alone? I can give it one of them alone, but the other is going to have to be shared by 3 other devices. Thanks.

the s12-500 arrived today and all seems well. It stood up to a quick run on prime95 and several hours of bf2 & colin mcrae rally 2005. The 4-pin molex situation is a mess, but it works, and that's all that matters. This is the only psu i've thrown in this box that lets me hook up anything on the 4pin molex connectors with my 6800ultra and not have any stability issues immediately... (400w fortron, 460w enermax and 450w ocz modsteam all had stability issues doing this with this video card). Fit's perfectly in my lian li PC-V1100 as well. Thanks for the help everyone.
