not to argue but I am running a 290 asus at ltc and I am pulling 762 watts at the k- watt meter. (that includes a lot of usb sticks) And a few gridseeds

if I turn off the ltc mining I drop to 439 watts that means that the gpu is pulling 323 watts on a gold psu to mine.

Um, the point is that a gaming rig (as opposed to your mining setup) doesn't come close to needing a 750W PSU.

Just to further muddy the waters, Newegg has the Corsair HX750 for $109.99 plus a $20 mir for a final price of $89.99. The HX series is the next to best that Corsair has to offer, behind only the AX series, right? Is this unit as good as the others that we have been discussing here?
Would this unit be considered superior to the Seasonic G-750?

The AX (not AXi) series are rebadged Seasonic X series units.

Well, there you go, problem solved 😀 I still say 500W would have been plenty for your rig, but if you need PSU now and do not mind dropping $100 on it, then 760XP2 at $100 is an excellent value. Or if you already have some kind of PSU you could wait for a sale on 660XP2 that usually goes for $80.

Let's instead focus on that pesky 860XP2 that never goes on sale. I'd grab one in seconds if it were $120.

I glad I argued with everyone as I kept an eye on the thread and I ordered a 760 plat for the 99 bucks! AR

LOL! As it is pretty hard to turn this one down for that price.

even if the platinum were a little more expensive than the gold, you would certainly recoup the cost over the life of the psu.

Actually, the current platinum rated AX units are rebadged Seasonic Platinum units.
This is not true actually true, they are both made by Seasonic and may be of very similar design, but at the very least their fan profiles are entirely different. The Seasonic Platinum is much less aggressive about ramping the fan speed up under load. There are reviews that do fan speed/noise tests at various load levels and there is a real difference.

The hardware appears to be identical looking at teardowns of a matching unit from each line, including the fan. A fan profile is something that's pretty easy to change, but it's clear Corsair didn't have Seasonic do anything special regarding the hardware.
