Anybody use those seasickness bracelets? Do they work?

I'm going fishing for 2 days on a boat and am worried about getting sick.

Any helpful hints?

They work for some people and not for others. I'd advise taking some Dramamine ahead of time if you're not sure what the bracelet will do for you.

One other bit of advice: stay up on deck (and not in the flying bridge) as much as possible. The two best ways to get sick fast are to stay below or stay way up high in the bridge. Keep the fresh air on your face and you'll feel much better. I'd probably lay off the beer as well. It's fine if you know you're not prone to motion sickness, but will exacerbate things if you are.

Try to remember to look outside the boat as much as you can. Seasickness/motion sickness is caused when your body is receiving inner ear signals (semi-circular canals, even!) that don't make sense to your brain. When you can see outside references that are moving relative to you it makes it easier on the ol' neurons.

Thanks for the tips!

I'm just taking precautions. I usually don't get seasick but I got sick once going diving and that wasn't pleasant. My friends went fishing last week and one of them spent the whole day yakking.

I get horrible motion sickness :(

I've never really been on a big boat, so I don't know if I would get sea sick....

But I get sick when I read while moving..

I can even get sick if I read the street signs while driving down the road.. but I have to do it intently for a long time.

Motion sickness is teh suck.

Sea sickness is wierd.
I've been on a 70 ft salmon charter in 8 to 16 ft seas with no problems. But I've also been dog-sick-wish-I could-die on a 200 ft ferry in gentle swells.

Best bet - dramamine, stay on deck, no alcohol or rich foods, focus on the horizon.

i go on these 1 to 2 day deepsea fishing trips all the time. although i've never actually gotten sick, i've felt uncomfortable a few times before. my last 2 trips, i took Bonine and i've felt great. Bonine is stronger than Dramamine, and it lasts up to 24 hours. it's chewable, even. i gave some to a guy who was throwing up a day before, and he didn't get sick the next day.

whenever you feel sick, keep your eyes focused on the distant horizon. that should help too.

Try going marlin fishing for 9 hours in the hot sun on choppy water while violently hung over.
Man, that sucked. :p
