i saw him on one show, he's not anti-US. his basic premise is 3-fold. They're angry at the US and their own government, plus they're humiliated because their society sucks. They want opportunity and success. They want us to help them achieve this. They don't want us to interfere with them. They want the power and success of America.

After watching that show, I feel angry too. I feel angry that they blame us for their own problems, that they are unwilling to help themselves. They want us to basically give them power and success, but they don't want to sacrifice for it. They have no true leaders. Basically they're children. I guess I'm angry because these people feel no sympathy for others, they're selfish.

Everyone knows September 11th happened because those damn mooslums are just a bunch of terrorists with nothing better to do than hijack airplanes and beat their women. America had nothing to do with it; we're the perfect, upright bastion of freedom and democracy, and we all know that we always do what's right and what will help spread democracy. We would never favor one particular country over another just because of their economic advantages. Nope, we care about all the people of the world.

:)

My understanding, after the program, is that they feel angry because our Administration has been favoring Israel over Palestine, and favoring their dictatorial goverments for our interests.
Did I understand it wrong?

well, i think you misunderstood on the israel conflict issue, your second point i think i included in my post. his whole premise is that the Israeli issue is not the entire or even the main reason for this hatred. He believes people care more about their own countries and situations more than another place, even if it is closeby. your second point is what i stated as the 3-points, the US, their government, and their humiliation. They're pissed at the US for a duplicity in their foreign policies. This duplicity of course is the support of the repressive regimes.

I never said I didn't like it. The best part about this war in Iraq? All these pretty flash bangs and whiz missiles and the only finger I have to lift is to turn the volume down when the explosions get really loud.

There was also an issue concerning US principles as stated in Bill of Rights/Constitution not being consistent with US foreign policy.

Not suprising, we have video games where we kill arabs and its considered a good thing. Both are stupid things to be boastful of.

The only problem with moving out of the country is that King George will likely bomb you preemptively.

Whilst 9/11 was neither the US's "fault" nor was in any way "deserved" - both opinions of some would have you believe, there are other points to consider. Namely, the US could reduce the amount of hatred directed towards it by taking a more concerned view of the middle east in general - as just opposed to Israel.

What I mean to say is that the foriegn policy of the US, especially with regards to its unwavering support of Isreal is a major source for the kind of hatred across the entire middle-east that leads to attacks like 9/11. The reason for this is that those in the Arab world who hate/dislike/cannot understand Israel - depending on the severity of their stance - see the US as being one-sided and two-faced. They see that attrocities are committed by both parties and yet the US does nothing concrete to curb the Israeli side of the conflict - it only condemns the Plaestinian acts, whilst actively supplying and supporting US/Israeli weapons technology.

Until the US is once again seriously engaged - as it was only a few years ago - with the peace process and the creation of an independant Palestinian state (as this is the ONLY solution that will hold water for the long term) there will unfortunately continue to be a steady supply of US haters who readily sign up to fight for terrorist groups against US interests. If the Palestinian problem can be worked on and hopefully resolved at some point in the future the US will have struck a bigger blow against terrorism than any war could ever achieve, as it will do a lot to win over the next generation of potential "US haters" (and by doing so reducing the flood of potential recruits to groups such as Al-Quaeda) before they get consumed into the dogma that now surrounds this issue.

Is it just me, or did that guy nod his head too much and in a most odd fashion?

I only survived the first half hour of the show. The journalist takes a pretty risky position by going into other countries where Americans are not always warmly welcomed - and then has a debate with key people. I know if I were in another country debating people, they'd probably kick my ass outside after the event was over. Yes, the journalist did a lot of "non-verbal" communications by nodding his head a lot and also a lot of movements by his arms and hands.
