searching for the best wireless networking adapter

skyking

This is operating in Win2K. Here are the properties I am looking for:
1) Stable configuration utility. I have had several that simply die out and need reinstallation.
2) Easy to reconfigure for the computer initiate. I have set up 5 of the wireless access points this system will use, but there are two others I do not "own", and therefore these locations require different WEP settings, etc. I want it to be easy and foolproof to set up a profile for those locations, and provide a postive method to change from one to another.
3) I prefer a USB product, but will consider a PCI card with an external antenna. The user will be pushing the range and throughput, so antenna placement is important. The desktop system is in a van that parks outside the facilities.
3) good chipset and driver support. I have heard good and bad about broadcom, agere, you name it. I am looking for some real world experiences.

Will this be a B, G, or SuperG network? just curious. if you're going with B to save money, avoid netgear USB adapters, if you can. I've got two of them and the best speed I've ever gotten out of them is 1.5Mbps - either from the internet to a single computer, or between two computers. And this is with one adapter on my computer, about 12 feet from the router, and the other adapter being in just the next room.

B speeds are fine. The transfers are going out over the WAN, so that is really not a concern.
I have B/G routers almost everywhere, but I was leaning towards the B adapters because of possible longer history of good service.
Jack, thanks for the links, and thank you for the heads up about the netgears.
I have not used the proxim orinoco utility. Does it seem reliable enough?
