Searching for the best mattress....

I hit a furniture store over the weekend and just happened to see a couple of memory foam mattresses. I tried them out and realized that I need to get rid of my 12 year old no-name mattress. I've had this thing since before high school. The mattress I was looking at was an Englander "Nature's Finest". It was like a conventional spring mattress with memory foam on the top layer.

I read some reviews about this mattress that were negative, saying that after 4-6 months, the foam started to sag and cause indentions. I need some advice on what I should look for and if there are any decent deals. I'm definitely wanting a king-sized bed...and one with a firm mattress that won't wear out easily. Thanks!

Do they have any mattress liquidation places around you? I got a real nice bed and save about $300 because the mattress was a different shade than the box spring.

Anyone have a memory foam mattress? I stayed in a cabin with my gf last New Year's and it had one of those. It was pretty comfortable and had plenty of support.

Firmer mattresses do not resist sagging better than softer mattresses. I don't know about that specific one, though. I almost started living at the furniture store when I tried out a tempurpedic mattress with pillow top. No idea how long it lasts. Also it's not cheap.

I think most of those come with 20 year warranties, but are affected by temp. more than anything. When they're cold, they're hard as a rock.
Firmer mattresses don't resist sagging at all. I just don't know what brands make the best mattresses... I went to Sears a few weeks ago and they didn't have anything decent. I may end up going to a real mattress store and seeing what they have.

Anyway, I have a Sealy (I think), it's awesome, but I don't have a firm. I'm sure they make one, though.

I've met plenty of people that bought some memory foam mattress and none made it a year with one. I suggest going to the store and laying down on various mattresses. The big names (Sealy, Serta, etc) are all big names because they make quality product. I'm sure someone can give you a horror story on each brand, but for the most part they make quality products.

Matresses range from $200 - $2000+ so you need to see what you like. Also, look for custom mattress manufacturers in your area. There are 2 different companies here that make very good beds and have been in business forever.

My parents had a mattress with the "egg crate" foam and they didn't like it. My only advice is do not skimp on a mattress. You get what you pay for. Cheap mattresses like the last one I bought sag quickly and cause back pain.

I bought one of those Select Comfort sleep number beds and like it. It isn't as noisy as springs and because it uses air, the coils never get a memory and sag on you. I sleep a bit better (I never sleep well on anything), but my girlfriend has noticed a big difference and says she sleeps much better. The bed is contructed of more durable material than I thought it would be (the bladder is vulcanized rubber with canvas). Good luck.

i just got one from sears

it is a full for $550 for mattress and box spring

i just tried out all the ones at the store

there is no best mattress you just have to lie down on it

because that is the only way you are going to find one that is suitable for you

I've spent $2000 on two different ones in the past four years. One was a Sealy, the other a Serta. Both junk. The select comfort is the way to go. No sagging, no memory, they are just expensive. Plus you can have two different firmness settings.

I have a king-sized mattress in storage in Arkansas I'm selling cheap. Can't remember the brand name or anything though.

I went with a Select Comfort (king, pillowtop) and am very happy (as is the woman). We used to have a Serta (queen) and it was good at first, but then I started waking up with head and neck aches, and my arms would sometimes be totally asleep.

Anyway, they can cost you, but I think it's worth it.

Well, the digital selectors can be set from like 10 to 100, in increments of 5, so there are a lot more than 2 firmness settings!

You really cant ask for mattress help on the internet man, goto a store and lie in each bed for about 5 minutes. You'll know if you like 'em or not. As for a lot of those foam mattresses, many have a pretty hefty guarantee with them... at least 10 years, possibly 20. I loved the way a Latex Foam bed feels, but theres no way I'm paying $2k for a bed. My wife and I ended up with a generic pillow top called the "Cromwell". Best nights sleep I've had in a while.

I shopped around. Sleepy's matched a competitor by 20%, and I ended up w/ a Serta Queen sized mattress (plush top) w/ box spring and frame for $400 delivered.

My old GF had a McRoskey Airflex, and it was the best bed I've ever slept on, by far. They're handmade in San Francisco.

Apparently the Queen of England was visiting SF, and stayed in one of the ritzy hotels there (I don't recall which one), where they used Airflex mattresses in the high-end suites. After her stay, they replaced all the beds at Buckingham Palace with Airflexes.

They really are extraordinarily comfortable. IIRC she paid $1000 for it, roughly 6 years ago. No idea what they cost now.

Mold may be an issue with some models.
