Searching for Powerful Speakers around $200-$300

I am looking for some banging speakers that will be considered good a couple years down the road.

$300 would be the MAX I would pay, if I had to pay that much..

I was looking at Klipsch ProMedia Ultra 5.1 speakers. Is there something out their better for the buck, but less than these $300 speakers?

I would be happy to get away with some $150-$200 speakers, but if I must lay down another $100 and get something a lot better, I might as well.

Looking forward to your input!! 🙂

Thanks, anyone else?

The logitechs look like they product a little bit more output than the klipsch ones. Which are better? Or is it just too close to tell?

Well, when I searched it seemed like the Logitech ones were a little bit better for the buck, but I have been told by a few people that the Klipsch ones were the best for around $250-$300.

id figure you cant go wrong with either set, determine what characteristics are more important to you, for instance, is deep sounding base important? if so see which can handle lower sound, how about wireless remote? if both have that check neweggs reviews on both, i got the logitechs and should have them in a few days so if you can wait ill give you my thoughts on them soon as i get them installed

What kind of sound card (if any) will I need to use the power of either of these speaker systems?

The motherboard I have has integrated sound http://usa.asus.com/products/m...4p800-e_d/overview.htm

AI Audio via 8-Channel CODEC
- The ALC850 CODEC has eight channels of 16-Bit DAC, a stereo 16-Bit ADC, and an AC97 2.3 compatible multi-channel audio designed for PC multimedia systems. It also automatically detects and identifies what types of peripherals are plugged into the audio I/O jacks and notifies users of inappropriate connection. No more confusion of Line-in, Line-out and Mic jacks.

You are right, that isn't that much. I was looking at ones that were in the $250s.

Sounds like that is what I will get. I was hoping to ask for the sound card & speakers this christmas, but since my birthday is nov 30th, I might put my money where my mouth is and buy them.

A few more questions,
1) If I buy now vs waiting 30 days, what price difference is expected?
2) Even though I have integrated audio with my mobo, will I have any problems using this card? Do I need to disable the integrated audio first?
3) Most importantly, do I NEED this sound card in order to utilize the performance of the speakers? Will my integrated audio be good enough?

1) There will be no price diff, and if there was, it would be minimal.
2) Yes, you will need to diable the adio; you do this in your bios. first, boot up your computer, and uninstall all your mobos sound drivers. Then, reboot and go strait to your bios (either delete or f8/f10). Go to periphials and disable the integrated audio there. Refer to your mobo manual.
3)Most mobos include a digital decoder, so you don't NEED the 2ZS; however, think about your home audio: would you rather have onkio or sony?

Yeah, 6 months ago that woulda cost you $100+ more.

I do not know how to do that, but because these are all digital, there is a way. You might have to upgrade to the 2ZS Plat to do that though.

Think I should post a new topic regarding this?

Right now I have a TV with limited functions in terms of what I can plug into the back of it, and a cheap cd player with even cheaper speakers, and then a computer, with NO speakers. So pathetic... I know...

I know for sure I would want to be able to use my speakers for my cd player as well, that way I can listen to music (mainly radio) with this system.

Do I need to purchase ANOTHER thing to be able to do this?

No, but if you want hte extra connectors, you need to by the plat version. I am not sure if others know a way to rig what you want, but I don't.

Ok, well it would be nice to hear what a few others think I should do. I wouldn't want to waste any money on this system if I don't have to :/
