Ok, locally there is a mexican restaurant that makes a spicy gourmet burrito they call a Yucatan. This burrito is just a standard meat burrito with some rice and beans inside but the sauce they use on it is a Habenero sauce.

I have looked all around for a recipe for a Habenero sauce but have been unable to find anything. Heck, I don't even know where to buy Habenero's unless I hit one of the Hispanic stores in town. So I'm gonna ask out there, anyone know where I can find or have a recipe for a tasty Habenero sauce and possibly where I could get the ingredients?

Well, this won't really help you that much since I'm not sure how well it would go on a burrito, but Tabasco's habanero sauce tastes really good. It's kind of sweet, but really spicy. Habanero's are fairly common here (Texas), most grocery stores have them.

They don't even sell that locally (to many scandanavians around here I guess)! I had no idea it existed, thanks.

I should probably clarify more though, the sauce on the burrito is a brown color and it appears to be mainly something other than Habenero's (judging by the fact that I'm not on the ground asking to be shot afterwards). I would guess it is a sauce of something else (maybe roasted tomatilla's or something) with Habenero for spicing it up.

I have an uncle who's really into peppers and actually grows his own Habeneros. All I can say is that they're definitely NOT for the weak of heart (or mild mild of tongue and GI tract). He recently sent me down some of his homemade "Phil's Weeeezer Sauce" and let me tell ya....it makes you weeeeez! Good stuff though!

Sounds like something I'm willing to try! Now I just have to find out where I can buy Habenero's. :) Any other recipies out there?

Urban, don't know what they look like, Habenero's are the hottest pepper though, 1000times hotter than jalepenos.

We have a red Habanero sauce here at my apartment. Something like 265,000 Scoville Heat Units (as a comparision, the average pepper spray/mace/whatever is around 1 million). I'm not a hot sauce freak and haven't tried it, but my roommates says it's got a kick to it, with a little sweet flavor. Not sure where they got it, probably from someone that went on vacation someplace.

I've had habenero beef jerky. Damn, that was some hot stuff, but it was good too! :D

I've seen those plants for sale here(maryland) and they actually put "too hot for human consumption" signs on there. I have tried the sauce before. It was very hot, but it had a great flavor, unlike many cooler sauces.

to hot my ass. :) I'm sorry but Habenero's have some of the best flavor I've ever tasted. Sure you might not be able to eat the straight but they are still great eating.
