While I'm always "for" using the search function, aren't the non-subscribers at a disadvantage here? With a crippled (non-full-text) search function, they have to trust that a keyword in the thread title happens to match the topic they want to post about.

If something is genuinely funny, I don't mind the repost (to a point). If we must, just link 'em to the old thread(s).

If you wish to use full text, you have to be a subscriber. There are posts all over the forums from anand explaning why, thanks.

<-------------- (is a subscriber)

Talking about the folks that get ribbed for "not using the search function", leading to occasional (or buttloads of) reposts.

Thank you, Hossenfeffer, for posting this in behalf of those of us who are not subscribers. :)

The crippled search function does lead to a lot of reposts, especially since many titles give no clue as to the content of the post (some are even deliberately misleading.)

Perhaps non-subscribers could be given, say, one full-text-search per day?

Yeah search is completely useless unless you are a subscriber. Today I want to find out if there is a simple utility to clone including MBR one hard drive to another. THIS HAS TO HAVE BEEN DISCUSSED BEFORE...oh wait I'll start a new thread because I have no idea how to find this basic topic using the search...what do I search for "hard"? "drive"?
clone"?

Quick thought... what about limiting searches to archived threads (or new threads) to give some of the functionality back. Afterall, we all have to look at duplicate threads, not just non-subscribers.

Sorry guys, full text will remain a subscriber only feature. We will not be changing that stipulation, we've explained why in quite a few posts about why this was implemented.

Thank you.

Thanks Hossenfeffer for bringing this issue up.

To be honest its not reasonable for us non-subscribers to expect full-text search, but it is reasonable for us to be able to make the occasional re-post in error without being shot to peices by other members...

Could you give me a link to one of those threads? I seem to be having trouble finding one with the search capabilities.

I tried the link for more info on the "Faster Access, higher PM limit and more for AnandTech Subscribers!" page but I get error code: 102 "Sorry, we were unable to locate the object requested."
