Install a door at the bottom of the steps.

Problem solved.

I was in teh same situation the previous two summers and if I was upstairs hanging out, I could feel within 10 minutes or so if someone left the door open at the bottom of the steps.

Also, hang some blankets from your windows to keep the sun out and unplug all the electronics you aren't using and don't need to keep plugged in.

buy a couple panels of drywall board. cut to fit. cut a hole and use it as a "door", seal with doggy type flap. or build in a real door with a couple 2x4 framing bits and stuff lol.

use some sheets or some saran wrap

You want to build an entire wall out of saran wrap? You'd need about 300 packages of saran wrap to cover the space in the picture.

You'd have to buy it in eh... bulk

Alternator-sized rolls? ;)
Sorry, just had to :p
