Has anyone else noticed how loud Seagate SCSI Drives are compared to other SCSI drives? I have two Seagate SCSI drives, a 9 gig and a 36 gig.. both 10k rpm, and I notice that they are extremley loud compared to my Quantum 10k SCSI Drives. So what I'm asking is, is it just me or are they really loud, and has anyone figured out an idea on how to keep them quieter? Different mounting styles maybe.. one drive makes my entire case tremble when being accessed. I guess if it wasnt mounted to the case it wouldn't do that, hang it from mid air inside the case maybe ;)

Seagate has a utility called "seatools" that can be used to adjust the noise/performance as well as other settings.

If that doens't make you happy, then try and mount the drive in a cooler bay. That may dampen the vibration.

True dat, except the idle seek (click, click, click) used to drive me nuts. Now I am used to it.

If you have the older 10K models they are louder than the latest modern drives. My 36LPs are as quiet as any Ive owned. Pretty much the same for my 1st generation X15s. I have had some 10K drives that will run you out of the room with noise.
