I've just purchased this SEAGATE BARRACUDA 7200.7 160GB SATA W/ NCQ
and i was just reading and i found out that it aint reall silent or has a strange intermittent chirping noise.

Anyone else notice this? Whats the difference between the Sata's and SEAGATE BARRACUDA 7200.8 200GB IDE ATA100 7200RPM. Do these have that strange noise as well?

Also, there is the 7200.8 Sata version. Do these have that sound as well? have they fixed it? Cause, i really want a silent pc and if its gonna be chirping away then im going to have to change my order.

that noise seems like the HDD is moving in the cage and could be solved with rubber washers, but dont take my word as fact

i heard from a few threads that , its the actualy hard drive. It comes on when the hard drive is seeking or such. I looked at all the 7200.7 sata's and everyone seems to say that makes a noise or such. But, this is coming from another Forum.

Go with the Samsung Spinpoint.

Check out http://www.silentpcreview.com/, they show that the Spinpoint is the 3.5" drive of choice for quiet systems, and the Seagates are inconsistent as far as noise - some are loud some are quiet.

They also recommend to suspend any 3.5" hard drive.

" quality of the seeks has worsened slightly and become more noticeable" not too appealing from what i heard . I would like to stick with the 5 yr warrenty from seagate. ( seems everyone is buying them ) do the 7200.8 sata's chirp and make odd sounds as well when seeking ?
