In general, how long does it take to get a hard drive back from them? I had 3 Barracudas die on me, and I usually returned them to the store, but I can't with this one.
 
BlitzRommel, are these the Barracuda IV's??????????? If so what size.
I've seen at least 8 or more post (NEGATIVE) to do with
Barracuda IV models in the last 10 days. If so, now what?

These seem to have a worse record than IBM drives for me. I've only had one 75GXP die on me...

It's a shame. It was quiet as all hell for me.
 
If you call them on the phone and give them a credit card # they will ship you a drive right away and you have (i think) 15 days to return your bad drive, if you dont return the drive then they charge your credit card.

If its less then 80 gigs they are extremmmmmmmmmmleeeeeeeeey back logged. how long has it been? If over 3 weeks write tech support ask where your drive is. I did and they sent me a 80 gig in place of a 40 gig. End of story. Ask nicely and you shell receive

You are going to find bad drives with any brand, and the more that are bought, the more that you will hear about going bad. Even though the 75GXP had alot of problems, it was a very popular drive cause it was large and fast. Since so many people bought one or more(myself included), there have been many who have reported problems(although in this case there is apparently flaws that garner enough for a civil action suit).

I've been thinking about getting either a Seagate or a WD JB drive but I'm not sure which to get still. Hehe Hope the JB's aren't going to give alot of problems cause 100-120gigs is alot of space to back up 😉
 
I was just about to post a thread on my experience with a 40 GB Barracuda IV when I came across this, and thought I'd add my .02 here. I have been running a Barracuda IV for about 2 months with no problem--got it because it was quiet. When I work on the system I'm using it in, I move the front sideways about a foot to remove the side panel. A couple of weekends ago, I put in a quieter PSU and when I went to boot up there were unrecoverable registry errors, and I had to reinstall from a backup image. Last weekend I did another unrelated change, and although I could boot into W2K, I was bounced into checkdsk. Everything is running okay, but this suggested to me that perhaps the Barracuda IV was sensitive to even very small, gentle movements. The HD checks out fine with Seagate's utilities. Has anybody else experienced anything like this? By the way I had two 75GXP's and I had to RMA one of them.
 
Did you run the extended test? I ran the short one first, and nothing was wrong. But when I ran the extended test, it ran into a whole bunch of crap.
 
I did run both tests, but I think I'll do it again. I don't know if it's permitted, but it would be nice to post some of this info in Cases and Cooling, because that's where a lot of folks interested in quiet, and Barracuda IV's, post.
