ST3500320AS Drive model, bought in FS/FT off HardForum, arrived clicking, I don't mind as long as Seagate will allow RMA. Will Seagate allow RMA if drive is functioning but has the click of death? Thanks!

Yes they will. Call their 800 number to get the RMA. You will get a re-firb'ed hdd back though...

1. You can check exact warranty expiration Here
2. Have you taken the issue up with the trader that sold you a dodgy HD?

I told him I don't need the storage for the time because well.....he sold me a 150GB Raptor as well and it works like a dream. $90 For a 500GB Seagate and 150GB Raptor is a HOT deal, and anyways, I don't need the 500GB now, and a $8 shipping fee won't kill the amazing deal I got. (50/Raptor, 40/500gb)

And, it's in warranty until 2012 so I think i should be set.

How does the RMA process go, I have only been through it once with Maxtor lol. Do I ship first then get RMA number or what?

They should give you an RMA number before you ship anything to them cause you have to clearly label the drive/package you send to them with that RMA number. Then you send it and simply wait for them to process and ship you the replacement.

You can RMA it totally on Seagate's web site. Seagate doesn't care whether anything's actually wrong with the drive or not. They'll replace it (with something....). They can't be bouncing drives back and forth across the postal service just because they couldn't find anything wrong in their tests. Makes for bad customer relations.

It tells me to mail it here:

Attn: RMA1##########
SEAGATE TECHNOLOGY INTERNATIONAL
C/O JABIL GLOBAL SERVICES
5700 SOUTH INTERNATIONAL PKWY, SUITE A
MCALLEN
TX, 78503-8879

That seems like an address that USPS will be like wtf is that? Or is that an OK address for USPS to ship to?

No, that is the right address. I recently RMAed a drive and that was the same address I sent it to. Just make sure you package it correctly. They are somewhat strict about how you must package it up.

That means no packing peanuts.

I once shipped them a HDD wrapped in newspaper stuffed in an envelope, no insurance. They took it. LOL. They are stricter now, but yeah, that is the correct address. Sent quite a few back (mine and custormers) and have had no problems. Just follow instructions. Great company with a great warranty.

sorry to revive an old thread but no sense in making a similar one, i have 2 seagate drives that are identical one of which has failed (the dreaded 500 GB firmware gave out after a power on/off cycle during a lightning storm)
long story short i have 2 questions
1) on their site the RMA process allows you to ship only one drive at a time, i dont want to pay shipping twice and dont mind getting both replaced at the same time, how can i do that ?
2) there is an option to pay 19.99 USD to get a 2 day secured shipping method for which they send you their approved packaging... i live in canada and shipping may be close to that anyway, anyone use this method is it worth it ? ( i dont mind waiting like a month either way though...)

thanks

Best bet is to call them.

They told me that I must ship each drive in a separate box. In the end, after getting a DOA from a RMA, I said screw it.

I bet for a few $$$ more, you can just buy a new drive, and not get back a refurbished unit that you may end up having to RMA yet again.

I have a couple of the 1TB drives that had the bad firmware on them and was blissfully unaware of the issue until it happened to one of my drives. I spent $30.00 on some jumpers, mini breadboard, serial port etc and followed the well documented procedures out there on the net to bring my drive back to life. All the data is intact and now all the drives have had the firmware patch applied. I will admit I wasn't too worried about the data which is why I chose this route but it turned out to be an interesting little procedure to do and it felt great when I booted up my machine and the drive was visible once again just like nothing had happened.

well i dont want to do anything like that, not cause im lazy but cause i just want to a good drive from the get go and not take any chanced, i do have some data on there that i want , but i will try playing around with it later to see if i can restore it

but point being the rma, whats better to do, i think i should just sent the one failed drive with the cheapest shipping method possible, and not their approved method... and a refurbrished drive doesnt bother me as long as it works, i hope they test their drives before sending them out...
