Here's a question - you work for this company - is there someone there that you could consult with, over their policy on this sort of thing? Run it by their lawyers, perhaps? (HIPAA compliance issues, relative liability, that sort of thing.)

Given the lawyer-time possibly involved though, not even accounting for possible liability, couldn't you just requisition them the funds to purchase a replacement?

Na Im an independent contractor for a large company ..so Im on my own on this one .....something like that ...:)
