Seagate Product of China reliability?

Anyone here ever have issues with Seagate drives that were manufactured in China?

I just bought a Seagate Slim for backup, it's a beautiful drive but the Product of China thing has me a bit concerned. Every drive I've owned in recent years has been made in Thailand.

Am I nuts or should I bring it back and find a box that has a drive made somewhere else?

Based on its size the thing is a single platter drive, so unless the bearings are really horrible or someone at Seagate's China plant got dust inside...it should be ok. Meh, I dunno.

Aren't most of your computer parts made in China? Why worry when you have a warranty.

I think both of my Seagate GoFlex portables were made in China... they've worked fine. I have something like 13000 hours on my first one (a 5400RPM drive) and it's just now starting to have some problems (reallocated sectors,) but I liked it so much I bought another a few months ago (a 7200RPM drive.)

I'd just roll with it.

I have nothing wrong with anything thats made in China, its just that this is the first HD I've bought in 8,9 years that was made anywhere else (other than Thailand).

I'm running the drive through a full Read/Write cycle and no errors so far. I'll post back if the drive ever dies of something thats not my fault.

I have 7 of the newer Seagates and they work perfect.

In contrast every WD green I bought in last couple years had problems

as with all brands. it is hit or miss. with proper cooling taken into consideration, if it has not die or show signs of premature failure within the last 30 days of continous 24/7 usage, (like downloading uploading torrent) chances are it will last a long long time. do not lose sleep over it.

like all data. if important to you. make a backup.
