seagate or Maxtor?

which is a better HD?

I have 2 maxtor 20gb 7200/100 and they are sweet

I am looking at either a 40gb seagate barracuda 4 or the ata133 maxtor

I have onboard ata133 raid but thats not a biggie i dont use it now as it is

I can get either for around 87.00 each

Both are good drives. The Seagate is supposed to have low performance in RAID. Other than that it's fast and quiet. I personally have Maxtors and like them.

I have both. Let me tell you this, if you want a relatively quiet hard drive with excellent performance, get the Maxtor. If need a virtually silent hard drive with respectable performance, then go with a Seagate.

I give a vote for the Seagata Baracuda. Although I think you will be pleased with either drive.

I think you will be happy with both, but if I coud afford it, I would go with seagate. (Usually, if I am buying for musel;f, IDE drives are Maxtor since they get replaced so often, and SCSI drives are the Seagates...)

I just read a good review on the Seagate. Very Quiet. But the Maxtor seems to be a slightly better performer. Go with the Maxtor.

Maxtor. Neither has a significantly higher failure than the other, but Maxtor has an advance replacement program and Seagate doesn't.

SCSI = Seagate
ATAPI = Maxtor

If you never want to hear your HD, get the seagate. It's what I have. However if it doesn't matter get the maxtor. I'm pretty sure it has better performance. I've also never had a problem with the 3 maxtor's I have had.

I don't own the Maxtor, but the Seagate Barracuda 4 is almost inaudible. The Seagate uses fluid bearings, which are optional on the Maxtor, but I couldn't find those.

Even during a virus scan, I can't hear the thing.

I've had both and I prefer the Seagate. Are you really going to tell the difference in speed? I kinda like how with the seagate you don't even hear it when it's seeking.
My Maxtor D740x went bad (loud buzzing sounds) and I had to have it replaced.
