Wondering if there's any reason to favor one or the other? The Samsung won the customer choice award on NewEgg for its 500GB drive, beating out the Seagate, but the Seagate won for the 320GB drive, beating out the Samsung. I'm referring to the SATA 3.0gb versions here.

Anyone have any experience with both and want to weigh in? This is for a new build that I'm ordering this week. Thanks.

If you prefer low noise, go with the Samsung. Just read all the reviews for both drives on Newegg, and you'll know all you want to know.

That's just it though, the reviews are great for both drives. I don't want to get a raptor for my os because the thing is a dinosaur. I considered a 74gb raptor, but I want to dual boot vista 64 and xp pro 64, and those two will easily fill that drive, and the 150 raptor is just too expensive for old technology.

Sooooo, I was thinking I'd get the 500 samsung and the 320 seagate----both award winners----and then use the smaller 320 (with the bigger warranty) for the os'es.

What do you guys think? Thanks for the comments, the help is appreciated!

Bumpety?

I know TONS of people have both drives...I want to order today or tomorrow so pleeeease speak up if you think I'm crazy for considering two different sizes and two different brands. RAID not an issue (for now...I can always double up the 500gb drive later).

Thanks!

I was on the fence until I read Anand's review (you know, that site attached to the forums). Then, I bought the Samsung and am extremely happy.

I believe the Samsung is the better performer and more efficient drive too. But Seagate's 5 year warranty is nice. I am waiting to see how the 7200.11s will be from them.

Ok thanks...I've read both reviews, and both speak highly, but you're right the Samsung is reviewed as the better performer. I'd like to wait to see how the 7200.11s do, but I have to rebuild now, as my current machine is completely dead.

I think I'll get two Samsungs, one 500 and one 320, both T Series, and use the 320 for the dual boot drive and the 500 for storage, and then grab another 500 (another samsung or a 7200.11) at a later date, possibly for RAID0.

Any issues RAIDing drives from two different manufacturers?

Thanks for again the info.
