Seagate Barracuda IV 80GB $89 after $50 MIR

Just grabbed one of these, you have to ask for them @ the hard drive area, they'll print out a reciept, then you have to beg for the rebate form when you check out. These are bare drives, no cables, boxes or anything. Don't forget to copy the rebate & reciept, knowing Fry's they'll lose everything @ least twice...

Looks like a Fry's only special through Seagate...

In the last Seagate $50 rebate (back in December, 2001), you had to send in a copy of your receipt and the model # and serial # from the drive.

Check out newegg.com for good prices on Barracuda IVs. At newegg, search for barracuda to see four different models.

just the serial number from the drive and the fry's reciept.

:| I love how long this rebate address is:
Seagate/Fry's
Barracuda ATA IV
80GB Bare Hard Drive
$50 Mail-in Rebate
P.O. Box 15270
Irvine, CA 92623-5270

You could probably shorten it, but I'll just do what they tell me to do. 😀

I have a scan of the rebate form. I'm copying everything over from my 46GB Maxtor to the 80GB Seagate even as we speak. Once that's done I'll e-mail you the form.

I went to buy one for a friend on the last day - 2/28.

The salesperson didn't want me to buy that, he highly recommended me to buy the more expensive 60G in an ugly sort of fry's retail box with cable and screws (what a deal!), he said the 60G is faster than the 80G although both are listed 9.5ms on the price tag. He also highly recommended me to buy the WD 120G because it could be on sale for $100 something, but it rang up as $200 something.

Bad hard selling - didn't work.

Please add the word "Fry's" to the title for this post. That way people like me who would have to drive hundreds, if not thousands of miles to the nearest BM Fry's won't bother opening the post.

picked mine up yesterday, great deal. rebate is given at POS, and is a Seagate/Fry's exclusive rebate. very quiet drive, i think i like it.

wait... deal is still on as of tues march 19? i might have to drive over to fry's on the way back from work...

back of the rebate form states that it's good on qualifying purchases made between 3/15/02 - 3/28/02. so i guess the deal is still live. i may decide to pick up another one, have the rebate sent to my folks house (one per household i assume), and start on that IDE RAID config i've been dreaming about.

<crying-whining-etc>
WHY ARE FRY'S AND PENNSYLVANIA SO FAR APART?!?!?!?
