Just received a new Seagate Barracuda 3TB drive. Had some problems with Win7 recognizing it initially, but realized I needed to initialize the drive. Did that, then started using it by transferring files from another drive. As I was doing this, Win7 "lost" the drive. Had to reboot and it popped back up again. Few minutes later, same thing happened.

I ended up updating my Bios and downloading SeaTools. Ran the SDT and Long Generic tests. Both failed with the code 6c9ac2a4. From what I can gather, this code means the test cannot verify the drive's serial code. And sure enough, the serial code does not show on the SeaTools window when it shows all of the drives.

Question is, is this enough of a concern to return the drive? I can't seem to find anything on the net other than what the code means.

Could mean the firmware is corrupted on the drive. My suggestion would be to speak with Seagate tech support to see what your options are.

I updated the firmware on some Seagate 3TB drives not too long ago, the update is available on their site so you may wanna check yours. I'd also check your SATA and power connections.
