Bestbuy has Seagate Barracuda 120.0GB Internal Hard Drive for about $59.99 after rebate again.

You have to use the 10 off 125 link

This time has a $70 rebate

120.0GB maximum storage capacity to house acres of DVD-quality video, MP3 audio files, high-res digital photos and action-packed games

I don't know if its just me, but that seagate mystique has disappeared for me. In year's past, I used to keep hoping for seagate drive deals but now--it's like ehhh whatever.

This is still a decent deal for some mass storage though.

Sweet, going to pick one up today thanks for the heads up.

I cashed in on two of the weastern digital drives (had a friend do the other rebate for me)

so this one is tempting

although the 80 gig WDs at circuit city for 19.99 was more tempting but this is pretty hot.

Damn, I just spent money on a Maxtor. I would love to replace my 80gig in my main rig with this, but really can't justify the upgrade. Seagate is always the best!

I love my Seagates beacuase once installed I can not ever hear them again!

(But that Maxtor for $40.00 is a better deal)

I purchased this last December - hard to believe it is on sale for the same price again.

Dang, I just got in on the Maxtor deal, but dang, I was waiting for a Seagate deal. I just needed a drive asap as my other died Monday.

Is anyone getting the $10 off deal to work?

Thanks for the deal - I was waiting for a good Seagate offer! Time to ditch a VERY noisy 40gb Maxtor!

EDIT: I'm having trouble with the $10 off coupon, too. I called the 888-BESTBUY number and worked through the order with someone on the phone, and they didn't have the coupon come up either. After reading them the whole link address, they could see the coupon, so the guy checked with the "Promotions Team" about getting me $10 back after I bought the drive for full price - still no dice. They said some junk about "after 30 days you'll get your money back." In the end, I bought it for full price, but the CSR agreed that it should be $10 off, and gave me a case number, so if I call back they will know that the CSR promised a $10 rebate, and he swears they will give it to me later. We'll see.... Nice HD in either case!

I had a real good experiece with this yesterday. I tried to order online, but it wasn't showing in stock at my local stores. I called the store and they had 2. When I got to the store, I went to the front and explained that I know it had to be used online, but I tried and it wasn't showing they had stock, which they really did, blah, blah, blah, and surprisingly, she let me use it in store.

I got the drive home and installed it. It's SUPER quiet and cool to the touch. My 120gig Maxtor went back to OD today because it was loud and hot. Just the opposite from teh Seagate. I'm so glad this deal came along. I was bummed about getting a maxtor anyway.

Thanks!
Aaron

I also was a Seagate fan -- replaced my Maxtor 40gb and Westen Digital 80gb with Seagates. I even replaced my Tivo 40gb with a Seagate 120gb a year ago.

But for me times have changed. I had one of the Seagate 80's go out and only had a WD 160 to install. I was very surprised at how quiet the new WD's are. Since then I have replaced the other Seagate 80gb with a Maxtor 160gb and now a Hitachi 180gb. All are very quiet. The new "fluid bearings" have really made a difference.

I no longer care on hard drive -- I just look for one with a 3 yr warranty.

As for fan's -- I am on a quest. Everyone rave's about the Dell fans but I think they are too loud. Most fan's that say quiet are not to me..... Just if I could find one for my Dell 8300 (had a 4550 up til month ago) that does not make the fan error show when it reboots.....

roamerr..
Have you tried Panaflo L1A or Vantec Stealth? Both are quiet to my ear. Nice post on the Seagate deal as well. Thanks.

westend -- Tried the Vantex Stealth. It seemed to hum. I liked the Zalman FM-Z2 (?) -- it has a quiet mode adaptor that lowers the voltage to 7 and makes it whisper quiet. It triggers the fan alarm. I am now running an Adda 92mm -- it "sometimes" triggers the alarm on reboot. Not a big-deal I just have to hit F1. I just would like to not have to....

Just shows that offensive noise is in the ear of the listener.... Hard DRives were an issue to me several years ago. I have not tried the L1A since it does not have RPM monitoring.

You can get the 3 pin tail for the L1a for monitoring rpms. I have converted over and had to order the tails. They are so very quiet!!

Yea, the 7200.7 is quiet in a way that benchmarks really can't describe. My DM9+ seeks massively loud (unless I use Amset and slow it down a lot), and my WD800JB's idle sounds very "mechanical" if you will. The 7200.7 is quiet during both seek and idle :)

Gravity -- know where I can obtain a 92mm L1a with rpm sensor? I have looked but can not locate -- 80mm is plentiful...

Great drive. I've got two Barracudas and they are really quiet. I've never had problems with them.
