Seagate AND Western Digital 2TB -- 139.99 @ Newegg

How's the 7200.12? I went with the Hitachi instead for the same price.
First person to say Deathstar after me deserves to get his nuts / her ovaries kicked hard.

Trying to resist...but I filled up my 1TB WD Caviar Black a couple months ago and had to throw in old 300GB and 400GB drives for overflow.

What in the heck did you fill it up with? I have never been interested in anything greater than 300GB since I don't even come close.

cough cough pr0n cough cough?

I'm sure porn fills up a lot of hard drives but people also like doing full blu-ray backups 🙂

*edit blu-ray porn hehehehe

Super hot price for leading capacity, but I think I'll pass. 20% single 'Egg reviews. 😱 Man, Seagate just can't get any breaks!

The other thing is the $90 1.5TB Samsung green drives give more GB/$.

Still pretty hot though.

Well, after their deliberate evasiveness with the 7200.11 issues, can you blame people? While it may absolutely be unjustified for the 7200.12, only time will tell I suppose.

Evadman : You crack me up XD

Tempting...
I wonder what the real failure rate is on them though. I've bought tons of stuff from newegg that hasn't failed and I never post a review, but I can see people flocking to post a bad review when it does go bad.

This is a four platter drive, right?

Right.

Generally speaking, Hitachi makes up to 5 platter drives (which their 2TB is) and all other companies go up to 4 platters for their 2TB drives. Samsung only goes up to 3 platters, which at this time means 1.5TB. All companies are hitting 500GB/platter density in their highest capacity drives except for Hitachi.

Recording TV shows in HD can eat up a lot of space, especially if you're watching a lot of shows and movies. But that probably won't take up space as quickly as previously mentioned activities, lulz
