I buy from TD occasionally but never anything with a rebate. It is said their rebates suck. I will pass on this one.

Good deal though if the rebate comes in.

at least mention the brand and model!

Seagate Barracuda 7200rpm 8mg cache 200gig.
A good drive, but at tigerdirect w/ rebate and > $0.50 a gig, I'll pass.

I purchases a few little parts from TD a while ago even during that time they had some scandle with some phone card? (I believe).
Anyways the couple of parts I did purchase came as advertised.

NEVERTHELESS, I never purchased a produce with a TD rebate so I cannot say if they pay their rebates or not.

topic should be.

Seagate 200 gig $149 - $50 MIR + shipping.

Adding seagate to the title is a good idea because I'm much more interested in seagate than western digital or maxtor.

No, there is some basis for not going with TigerDirect: Here

Out of curiosity, why are you much more interested in seagate than western digital or maxtor ?

I have to say, that from my experiences with TD, I would buy from them again. Every rebate arrived in a quick, timely fashion.

From wicktron's post regarding BBB, here's an excerpt worth reading:

Some of the complaints have issues with the advertised rebate, both the catalog and web site have numerous offers for items with a mail-in rebate. Upon receiving the products the rebate application is not included in the package. Customers are told the rebate application is on the website and customers are required to comply with the program and submit paperwork that they never received. Many are denied because the product they have purchased does not have the advertised rebate, the rebate has expired, and some rebates are only good if the item is purchased with a computer. Many customers feel they have been victims of bait and switch, and are unable to return the products because the package has been open. Customers who have contacted customer service with concerns have problem with getting return calls, emails, and experience unresponsiveness and unconcerned customer service staff.

Please forgive my ignorance, but whay does one do for the controller card aspect. This drive is above the limit of around 125 gigs - or 135 gigs for usual motherboards and would need a separate controller card, would it not ?
Again, sorry if this is a dumb question, but any leads would help

The key for Tigerdirect (IMHO), is to print out the rebate, when you purchase it, check the date for when you have to turn in the rebate. I have purchased a number of items there without a problem and have received my rebates.

Now I did purchase a wireless card, and I did not check the rebate date for submission. By the time I received it, I could not get the rebate out on time. I did call and complain to the rebate center I forget which one it was and I was able to fax it to them and get it my money.

I got this one at CompUsa for $170 - $70 MIR also about two weeks ago. The drive runs nicely, and I'm happy as long as the rebate comes through. On the other hand I'm sure there's gonna be even better deals in the next few weeks.

The only reason I choose Seagate is because their drives are very quiet. I have seagate at home, and I can't hear it. Here at work, I'm sitting next to 2 x 120 gig WD drives, and the whine they put off really gets on my nerves.

You know, I've never been hit in the balls with a baseball bat either, but I hear it's bad.
