I just built a new computer with a 80gb Seagate 7200.7 SATA hdd. My previous computer had a 7200.7 IDE drive which was very quiet. This new SATA drive is quiet so long as it isnt reading/writing, but as soon as I do anything that relies heavily on the hdd, like say run a virus scan with Norton, it gets pretty loud. Its like a clicking type sound. Its like the normal type of sound made when reading/writing that I have heard in all previous hdds that I have owned but amplified about 10x. Any idea if this is normal for these new SATA drives, or should I look into sending it back for a replacement?

i have the exact same drive and it does get a bit "clicky" but nothing that would alert me to a problem. i have used a few ide drives before and i find that the seagate are the quietest, including the one we are both using

it's noisier than its PATA counterpart because its faster than it.

the acoustic management is on an aggressive seek setting compared to the PATA version
