Seagate 7200.12 1TB Drive

I'm in the market for a 1TB drive and was going to get the WD Black. I do see now on Newegg though that the new Seagate 7200.12 1TB drive was released. The reviews seem to say it's approaching Velociraptor territory.

Does anyone have this drive? Has Seagate addressed all of it's firmware issues that caused all the DOA's?

I have the 500GB 7200.12 and its fast quiet and so far has no problems whatsoever. Had for 2 months been on 24/7 under constant use.

Do not listen to newegg reviewers...
"Technical proficiency: 'High to Very High'
Pros: DDR3 ram is 1.5x (DDR3/DDR2) as fast as DDR2 ram
Cons: Does not work with RD-RAM slots on my P4
Comments: Avoid at all costs!! Backwards compatibility is a must!!!

Newegg A++++++++++ super shipping ordered Thursday this week and it came last Tuesday. Would do business with again!!!

I can't believe Seagate would still be shipping faulty drives; all the problems are probably fixed by now.

I have two of the 500GB versions and they're whisper quiet and I haven't had any issues with them in the ~two months I've had them. I work from home so my computer is on 16 hours a day, and I do video encoding and gaming, so while they haven't seen *heavy* use I do put them through their paces at times.

Don't you all think that the 7200.12 with its 500gb platter is underperforming though? I've read through 3-4 reviews and it seems that with the denser platter, there was only a slight performance increase compared to the previous generation's 333-375gb platter performances from Seagate or other companies like Samsung. Personally, I think 500gb platters should give it much higher transfer rates than what the reviews are reporting. Add on top the high seeks of the 7200.12, it almost sounds like an incomplete product...

Yeah for such a large density difference the performance increase is very small...it seems the .12 mainly improved heat, noise and power compared to the .11 series (and let's not forget the firmware horrors).
I wonder if WD and Samsung are doing any better with their 7200 rpm 500GB platter drives...are they out yet?

Yup......not enough reassurance for me to buy any of Seabates new technology. I'm passing on 500gb platters for now. Finally got a working 1.5tb on the third try.
