No. I just picked up one from BestBuy this morning. I checked carefully to make sure that it says 5400RPM on the packaging box. Also, someone in a different thread thinks that this drive comes with 1-year warranty. It is not true also. The box says it is covered by a 5-year warranty.

I hope it's just a typo. I'll pick one up tomorrow and find out. Hope I have the same luck as you.

according to this page, the ST960812A-RK is indeed a 5400 RPM drive. but that's the only page that mentions the ST960812A-RK, and all that refer to the ST960812A say its 4200RPM.

but if you take it out and find that its not what the box says, then i'm sure you can raise hell at BB until they take it back

ordered one for in store pickup 2 days ago and still haven't received the confirmation for pickup yet. I am hoping it is 5400 rpm or else I will return it on the spot. Newegg has the toshiba 40 gig for $66 shipped, 16meg of cache.

Search the SN online after purchase. Some people have been finding 1 year warranties by typing in the SN even if their box mentioned 5 years.

hey... the best of both worlds applies here. Seagate must honor box description wtty, but if one were to find that by checking a SN online that an item had a longer wtty than described on box, then the longer period would apply.

I didn't chk the link above. Is this the price OTD?

Got mine and it says 5400RPM and 5-year warranty on the box.

edit: going to have to email them a picture of the box to get the 5-year warranty -- it's currently showing up as 1 year on their site.

Yes, but that's only the BOX. It's guaranteed for five years, and quite fast, for a box. The drive itself may only have a one year warranty, though . . .

"If you want me to take a crap in a box and then slap a guarantee on it I can. I've got the time".

When I upgraded my notebook, I put the 80 gig internal drive into a USB/Firewire Macally enclosure. You can pick them up on Newegg for $33:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817146604

They're currently out of stock, so if you want one just put your email in the auto-notify box. It works really well. I've tested both USB and Firewire and even USB is stable/fast enough to do Ghost image backups of the laptop's main hard drive. Be warned that it is a tight squeeze with some drives! The enclosure has an on/off power switch and comes with a very nice leather or leatherette case. They even include the cables! The drive also has dual Firewire ports for daisy chaining. The only thing I don't really like is the blue light on the front - it's one of those super-bright LEDs like Logitech used to have on their speaker systems. Oh and the drive works fine off bus power, but they do include a USB power adapter if you're connecting it to an unpowered USB port or a 4-pin unpowered Firewire port. Also has some rubber strips to prevent it from sliding off your desk and to keep it from vibrating. Great little system, very cheap, I highly recommend it :)

I called seagate and they said they'll honor the 5-year warranty if I email them pictures of the box and my receipt.

Has anybody confirmed it to be 4200 RPM or 5400 RPM? I checked Compusa to PM and it says 4200 RPM. As it is the Momentus 4200 but then people here said the box is 5400 RPM. On Seagate's site, it goes back and forth as well. On their pricegrabber, it saids 4200 RPM but in pages, it saids 5200 RPM. Hmmm....
