Well that would depend on how much cash u had, for most people cash gets real tight this time of year.
So any good deals are better than nothing.......

Why not put the details in the title, like... refurb...and the price?

Because then nobody would look.

Deal is ok if you want to take the risk, but most (smart people) will pass.

QFT, deal is crap compared to what you could get. the egg had a new 500gb WD for like $84 a couple weeks ago.

WD warranty is terrible, i had a few drives die after there warranty was up.

Dude, you're getting some well deserved feedback. The only time I'd want a refurbed hard drive is when I send my hard drive back for warranty replacement.

Respectfully disagree. If I'm hard press I'm not going to spend 90% of a new price on a poor deal. I'll wait a week and spend the full 100% to get a warranty. Refurb drives aren't a deal unless they have the full warranty of a new drive or are priced correspondingly.

Example:

Seagate 500 GB w/ 5 year warrant for $100 = $20/year for warranty
Seagate 500 GB refurb w/ 1 year warranty for $90 = $90/year for warranty

Seagate 500 GB refurb w/ 180 day warranty for $90 = $90 for 180 day warranty whereas the $500 GB new with 5 year warranty for $100 is $9.86 cents for that 180 days of warranty.

Given the high probability of using the warranty... I look at as your basically paying for a warranty and they are happening to toss in a chunk of metal with heads that can store 500 GB of data :).

If you look at it the same way you are spending 9x as much for the same thing when you buy a refurb.

Frys.com had 500GB Maxtors (Seagate with shorter 3 year warranty) for $90 shipped. Be patient and the deal will come again.

This is really "Cheep" post. Save $10 to lose 500GB of data. Great

Even new drives are flaky enough these days. Buying a refurb, even with full warranty (which these do NOT have) is playing Russian Roulette with your data. Hard drives are cheap, data and time are expensive.
