Seagate 500GB SATA/300 16mb - $199 @ Fry's Houston

Finally seeing 500gb SATA/300 hitting the $200 mark and very nice with no MIR hassle (although seagate rebates are fast as hell).

Anyone know if these are any good? It does not say what model it is and does not mention a 5 year warranty.

I have a 300gb and 160gb seagate and they are both very good drives so far.

Edit: Good till 06/06/2006 that's what it said on the price tag sign.

Even oem has 5 year warranty, bare drives..

The only thing I dont like is its 7200.9 series.. but for the price.. who cares..

Just came back and got 2 of these drives, indeed they are 5 year warranty as others have pointed out.

It seemsl ike the 7200.9 series didn't get super awesome reviews but it's still pretty good nonetheless.

Time to RAID these suckers up hehe.

I have never seen the SATA 500GB that low. It's always been $229 or higher before.

And if they were $189, is that with a MIR? No MIR here so that helps on tax.

Edit: I just checked and yup, I was right. The PATA were $189. These are SATAs.

I think I'm over it now that I've perused ebay. Doesn't look like there'd be any profit if I suddenly had buyer's remorse. Most drives are ending without bids, and others are usually selling at a little over $200 + shipping. Not worth the trouble to ebay it

It's still tempting just to put in a computer, that's some sweet $hit

In response to the question of "how big" drives will get, the reason these are dropping in price is because Seagate is putting out a 750GB 7200.10.

hmmm two of these at 420, or 4 of the newer 320 7200.10 for 425

got I hate this place I spend waay too much money

I bought 2 and unelss the 7200.10 really outperforms the .9, i'd go w/ 2 intead of 4...quieter, lighter, not as much heat.

yeah the 7200.100 clearly outperforms the 9 series, and both get beat by the wd5000ys RE2 500gb

speed vs capacity the dilemma lol

im using them for mp3's , movie, pics

my OS folder is raptor 150gb

Does seagate make a 7200.10 for the 500gb version? Or is that something that will come out soon?

I'm debating if I should return my 7200.9 and get the .10 if they indeed are much more superior.
