I think LVD is not a regular SCSI-2 format, check on it, those of you who got these drives might need to invest in either an expensive card or an expensive cable

I think this one should work fine Compgeeks Adaptec, and at $79 the price is right. I believe you will need a 68 pin to 80 pin adaptor. If you pay by Mastercard and know the secret words you get another 10% off

I guess being up at 2 am doing nothing has its benefits! I might be selling it if the cost of buying a SCSI card + scsi adapter + everything else I need is too much.

Jaybert, I am interested if you will be selling it. I already have an Adaptec pci scsi card in one of my computers. Not a cheap one either. Of coarse not many of the Adaptec are cheap anyway. :D

Too bad Buy.com doesn't limit the number of purchases someone can make of the deal of the day.

Why do companies keep making these SCA drives if they always end up clearing them out at such a loss? This has been going on for at least 5 years.

To those who don't know what SCA is, it stands for single cable or single connector something or other and was a really good idea that never caught on. Instead of using a 50 or 68 pin ribbon cable, setting ID, termination, and other jumpers, and connecting a power cable, SCA uses just an 80 pin ribbon that has power, jumper settings, and everything! This gives a really nice clean installation and the drive's termination, ID, power up settings, etc. can all be controlled by the SCSI BIOS. Anyway, no one makes a SCA host adapter so SCA is dead and always has been. The only way you can use the drives is with an adapter. There are hundreds of adapters on eBay for about $10 ea. Here's one example with pictures.

SCA drives are produced almost exclusively for use in hot swap
bays...Basically, for server use, which means for corporate users,
not home users...This is why so many of these 7200rpm drives
are available cheap. No one running a server is gonna buy
7200rpm drives at this point. 10K drives are standard issue
for SCSI, and 15K drives are available. In addition, this is
a half height drive. Won't fit in all hot swap bays, and even when
it does, it uses up more than its fair share of space.

A 7200rpm, half height, SCA drive is basically of NO value to the
market sector for which it was produced, hence the closeouts...

that's funny; they used to limit the number of DTD purchases at 3 per day from an account.

Dude.. you miss the point. Share the wealth and don't horde the deals. And if you DO happen to buy a bunch.. don't announce it. Cuz you'll only piss ppl off. Sell it on Egay and shuddup about it.

Dude, consider it labor charge. And I am not hording the deals.. That would be like buying 10+ units which is way beyond my credit line already. Not everyone would go through all the trouble just to make $50 :p (At least I won't when I get my full time job.. I'd rather sit my arse for 1.5 hr in an office)
