Seagate 5 year warranty

Keep your receipt. You can tape it to the top of your hard drive. Otherwise without receipt I understand its the manufacture date.
 
The other issue is that 'OEM' drives only get a 1 year warranty. The 5 year warranty only applies to retail boxed drives.

However, I'm not quite sure what OEM in this context means. I've just bought a 7200.8 as an OEM drive from a retailer. I got the full 5 year warranty.

Perhaps they mean 'grey market' drives only get a 1 year warranty.
 
OEM drives are the usual packaging sold thru newegg and others. Bare drive in seashell, no paper manual, cable, screws etc.
 
no all seagate drives to end user are 5yr waranties they changed this liek a year ago

I know I own 2 drives
