Seagate 400GB 7200 rpm 8MB cache $169.99 AR Fry's and Outpost.com

Fry's and outpost has the Seagate 400GB 7200 rpm 8MB buffer HD on sale this weekend for $169.99. Price is down $20 from about two weeks ago. Nice deal if you need a lot of storage. I think this is the cheapest this drive has ever been. Don't know when the 500GB HDs are coming out though.

Should be good at all Fry's locations, but I haven't checked out other ads.

LA Times Ad (works only on 8/5)

Here's an updated rebate found at another deals site.
Updated rebate

But it's probably best to wait for outpost to update their offical link before purchasing. This deal and rebate should be good until Tuesday (Aug 9), so hopefully the rebate will be updated on Monday.

That is actually a good price, in terms of what you get it's the same as paying $75 for a 200Gb drive which many consider a decent deal. Taking into account that this is a much larger capacity drive that natuarally tend to be much more expensive this is a very good deal. I'd say hot, but unfortunately the drive is only PATA.

Huh? Cheapest price on Pricegrabber is $290 without a rebate. This is a good deal if you need that much space. I've got a 250GB drive that's near full of newsgroup and rent-n-rip DVD's that need to be burned. Yes, I'm lazy. 😉

I'd pick one up if the rebate form was valid. It states 5-5. 🙁

Unfortunatly, it seems the updated rebate requires that the purchase be made at a Fry's retail store according to the terms.

Yep --- New rebate form states, "Purchase must be made at Fry's Electronics retail stores" . The old one states, "Items must be purchased through: Fry's Electronics or Outpost.com". 🙁 Kinda stupid to advertise a deal online that's not available online. Very misleading if you ask me. I'm considering calling them tomorrow and asking if I can get this deal online.

That said, this is still a very good price even without the rebate. Just sucks to miss out on a $45 rebate that would make it a great price.

I keep 3 weeks worth of backups for all my home machines and am running out of space on the backup drive. This would make a nice upgrade. Thanks, OP!

LOL whatever.

This is a fantatic deal for those waiting for these larger drives to come down in price. Under .50 a gig is nice. It would be nicer if it was .30 cents a gig like many of the smaller HDDs out there, but I don't want a case full of teeny HDDs. Too bad I don't have the $$ at this time. 🙁
