Are these the drives that had all the problems?

Or was that the 7200.9 ones?

Thanks.

7200.8's are the "problem" drives. I don't know how much of a problem they really are or not though.

This drive is a 7200.8, but the common belief is that it was a problem with an early batch, and they have since fixed the overheating.

Well, ain't this dandy - ordered two, had them in my cart, went to checkout & the price changed to $229 each. I can follow the original link & it says $99 each, but changes the price once I put it in my cart. Nice job, Fry's.

Search for 400GB, shows in stock $99, go to the item page and it shows preorder $99, buy from the search or item page and it shows $229 in the cart. Too goofy for me.

Even though the page says 7200.8 (the model #), people have been receiving the 7200.9 drives.

Outpost is just werid on this drive. Price has shifted around constantly for the last few weeks from $99 to $229. I purchased one when it was $129.00 w/free shipping last week. The actual drive received was a 7200.9 w/16M cache.

I believe that most (if not all) recently ordered and received 400GB were the 7200.9 drive.

What I ordered was outpost #4596287 listed as a ST3400632A. Drive in box was 7200.9 ST3400633A with datecode of 06406. Searching on Outpost for the stock number gave no hit today.

The other twist in this story is that the information on the Drive Box shows up with a 5-year warranty in the Seagate database whereas the drive id based on the label on the drive itself shows up as "OEM - contact your supplier". The SAME serial number is on the Retail Box and the Hard Drive; Model number and Part number are different. I've sent e-mail to Customer Support to have this fixed, otherwise the drive goes back to Outpost. The main reason I picked this up over a 320 gb WD was the warranty. It's no deal in my opinion if there is no warranty.

It has caused a ripple of doubt in my mind. ;)

Yes, this deal is dead. The new drive of the week is 500GB for considerably more than I'm willing to spend.

Sure enough, I come back on Monday and the deal is gone. Fvck
