Just did this deal with the rebate from the above post. Bayarea Fry's has the 300 GB 16 MB cache drive for 99.99 today, (4-6-06). SKU # is 4596277. The 50.00 rebate is good on this drive. I checked the UPC code and it's one of the two that are accepted: Offer valid only on these selected products: Product Name UPC Number Rebate Seagate 300GB ATA Hard Drive 763649001448 $50 OR Seagate 300GB ATA Hard Drive 763649001929
Thanks to Deslok for posting this. 49.99 + tax for a 300 GB 16 MB cache drive with a year warranty is a very hot deal.
anyone have theirs die yet? I bought 2 of these a month ago and one of them died within 3 weeks for no aparent reason. I remember people talking about problems with them during the past deal. Someone brought up these drives and said there were problems witht them and also on amazon a lot of people claim these drives (ST3300831A-RK) are dying. i'm just wondering if it was my bad luck. ive never had a hard drive die on me and having a 300gb drive half full die within 3 weeks for no aparent reason really sucks.. I used that warranty and took a few weeks to get a replacement (just got it yesterday) i guess i'll give it another 3 weeks. I should have RAID-ed them but i got too greedy :\ anyway i'm curious to know if anyone falls victim to this or of it was just my bad luck. Cause if alot of these so called great drives are dying maybe theres a problem with a batch of them and maybe thats why they are selling them so cheap?
oh and yes the drive did have active cooling applied
